Crystal Lake, Iowa was founded and established in 1898 when the railway was constructed. The city was platted and surveyed by H.T. Ambrose and F.N. Pitkin and owned by A.C. Ripley. The petition for the incorporation of the city began on April 19, 1899 under Judge Kelley of the district court. The official incorporation took place on May 16, 1899.
