Additional Research & Sources |
Holst was born in Southern Jutland, Denmark where he grew up wanting to become a teacher. After being denied a teaching job in Denmark, Holst moved to the U.S. in hopes of finding work at the Danish school in Elk Horn, Iowa. There, he began the Dannevirke newspaper which was then relocated to Cedar Falls with the help of Pastor Mylund. Holst became an inspiration for Danish people of Iowa as his paper connected them back home and gave them hope to succeed. |
