Additional Research & Sources |
John and Abigail German arrived to Iowa in 1867 and soon opened up the German House Hotel. In 1897, a bad fire broke out in the hotel, damaging the northeast wing of the hotel. Repair work was completed by G.S. Warner and the hotel reopened two months later. In 1895, the hotel was sold to J.W. Neal and changed the name to the O'Neal House. A few years later in 1904, the hotel was then sold to George Harmon. Competition with the Mount Ayr Hotel and the Commercial Hotel also kept the hotel struggling for business and by 1925, the hotel had again switched owners to Nate Lamb, who changed the name to Lamb's Hotel. |
