Description |
Between 1916 and 1917, the Chicago, Burlington, & Quincy Railroad worked to update the Mount Ayr train depot. The depot's freight room was moved from the west end to the east end and 16 additional feet were added on. The depot was covered with an exterior stucco coating and steam heat, indoor toilets, metal shingles and tile floors were installed. The first photograph of the depot was taken after it was remodeled. A photograph of the depot taken before the updated is also attached. Content can be used with the following standards: 3rd grade SS 3.28 Cultural Contributions in a lesson on town expansion in the early 1900s.
