Description |
This photograph shows brothers Randolph and Walter Beall of Mount Ayr, Iowa, standing in front of Randolph's insurance and real estate business. Between 1892 and 1893, the brothers each bought half of the Weekly News newspaper and changed its name to Twice-A-Week News. Randolph sold his half to Walter in 1899, and Walter sold the paper to J. H. Tedford in 1907. Walter then moved to West Union, Iowa, and published a newspaper there for many decades. In 1899, Randolp Beall compiled the Ringgold County Directory of 1899. He also co-founded the Old Timers Reunion in 1937 with George Kirby and was a charter member of the Ringgold County Historical Society. He retired in 1944 and died in 1946.
