Description |
The kitchen in the Granger house was in constant use and off-limits to anyone except the immediate family as it was a purely functional space rather than an entertaining one. The majority of activity took place around their cast-iron, wood-burning stove which was used for cooking, as well as baking, canning, heating water and heating irons for daily chores. Content can be used with the following standards: 4th grade SS 4.25 Technological Change in the modernization in homes during the late 1800s. The Granger family of Marion, Iowa was one of the founding families of the town, with the family residing in the house for nearly 100 years. Earl Granger founded his own meat market in town, Granger and Howe, and worked closely with the city coucil and Methodist Church on improving the city. |
