Additional Research & Sources |
The town of Hayfield was founded in 1891 and surveyed by F.N. Pitkin per request of Andrew Larson. The Bank of Hayfield opened in 1899 as a branch of the First National Bank in Gardner run by C.H. Lackore. Bank robberies increased post-Civil War due to outlaws wanting to join in the thrill and risk of robbing a bank as portayed by famous criminals of the time. Increased robberies was also due to those wanting to impress and have the chance of joining powerful gangs such as that of Jesse James. |
