Description |
This uniform was worn by George Saling during the 1932 Olympics. Saling, a resident of Corydon, Iowa, won the Gold Medal for the 110 meter high hurdles with a time of 14.6 seconds. Prior to racing in the Olympics, Saling attended for the University of Iowa and won the NCAA Championship for the 110 meter hurdles. Contacted the museum on 2/7/18 for a better picture. In the 1932 Olympics, Saling brought home gold and bronze medals. Saling attended the University of Iowa where he was a basketball player. After a track coach encouraged him to join the track team, he quickly became one of the best hurdlers in the world. In the Olympics, Saling won gold with a score of 14:6 in the 110 meter high hurdles. A year later in 1933, Saling passed away from a car accident at the age of 23. The Corydon high school named the new athletic field in his honor and in 1989, his name was added to the Athletics Hall of Fame at the University of Iowa. |
