a) Green Girl Scout leader's long-sleeved dress. Lapel pins spelling out G. S., three patch pockets on front, two with buttons, loose button in front pocket. Side button front closure. Two buttons on each sleeve. All buttons are embossed with Girl Scout trefoil. b) Green leather belt for leader's dress. This dress belonged to Gertrude Mae (Hersey) Jochumsen (b. 1885; d. 1968) and was used locally in the Cedar Falls Scout program. Founded by Juliette Gordon Low in 1912, The Girl Scouts of the United States has served as an all girl's alternative to the Boy Scouts of America, founded in 1910. The Girl Scouts have and continue to focus on a similar set of values believed to result in capable and productive citizens.
