The Rock Island railroad depot in Goodell, Iowa, was one of three two-story depot in Hancock County. The depot's size and location made Goodell an important place for trade and travel in Hancock County. Content can be used with the following standards: 4th grade SS 4.25 Technological Changes in a lesson on the changing transportation in the early 1900s and the development of towns and railways in Iowa. Goodell, Iowa was founded in 1884 in the Avery Township. The land that became the site of the town was owned by the Cedar Rapids, Iowa Falls, & Northwestern Land Company. The land was surveyed by Leroy Grant and the town began to establish businesses along main street as residents joined the town, such as the State Savings Bank in 1892. |
