Certificates like this one were given to citizens of Dexter, Iowa who bought shares in the "Roundhouse" Community House built in 1916. The money raised by these shares paid for the construction project. The certificate bears the name of the Community House Association of Dexter, and it is made out to Allen T. Percy, who most likely purchased a share in the project. Content can be used for the following standards: 4th grade SS 4.25 on the architecture and engineering technology used in constructing the building. Certificates and subscriptions were given to town residents to add to the construction cost of the building. When $10,000 was pledged, plans to construct the community center were made. The roundhouse became one of the first domed buildings in the country. |
