The Interstate Drainage and Investment Company operated out of this large factory building, which was located west of Britt, Iowa. This company played an important role in creating drainage ditches throughout Hancock County, which helped reshape the county's landscape. Drainage of excess water is determined by the topography of the land and the natural slopes of the ground. In some areas, drainage is present but in others, no drainage means excess water floods farming fields and destroys crops. Proper drainage was put in place by the Interstate Drainage and Investment Company to help drain water to the nearest natural source of water. |
