Description |
This is a brass 4.5-inch British howitzer artillery shell which measures roughly 3.5" (8.9cm) in height and 5" (12.7cm) in diameter. The internal components of the shell have been removed, leaving only the bottom portion of the shell casing behind. The surface of the shell has experienced some tarnishing, but there is little other damage. It is unclear which faction this shell belonged to, as the manufacturers markings on the bottom are partially illegible. The number "1918" is engraved on the bottom of the casing, indicating that it was produced and fired during the last year of the First World War. It was most likely collected from the refuse of a field gun or other artillery piece.
